Fall Equinox Reflections: A Lineage of Care

Hey, it’s Dr. Mari!

The Fall Equinox is one of my favorite moments in the year. A time when day and night meet in perfect balance before the long season of autumn begins. For me, it has always been an invitation to pause, to take a breath between cycles, to reflect on what has grown, and to prepare for what is coming.

This year, the Equinox feels especially meaningful. Kaname and my family’s journey in chiropractic care are full of milestones worth honoring. They are not just numbers on a timeline but markers of growth, lessons, and love.

The Milestones

1 year ago: we signed the San Mateo lease, planting the seed for Kaname’s next home and trusting in the future of our community.

2 years: of Kaname Chiropractic, a dream that became a practice and now a living, breathing home for care.

4 years: of being a business owner, learning that healing work doesn’t stop at the adjusting table—it extends into relationships, stewardship, and community building.

8 years: of my personal practice as a chiropractor, discovering again and again that an adjustment is never just about the spine. It’s about helping people feel safety, presence, and connection in their own bodies.

37 years: of my dad’s practice in chiropractic care, whose dedication has been the foundation of everything I know about service, consistency, and heart.

And now, my brother Steven has begun chiropractic school—another branch on the tree, another rhythm in the cycle of care that continues forward.

A Lineage of Care

When I step back and see these milestones together, I don’t just see a timeline. I see a lineage of care.

It begins with my father, who started his practice 37 years ago and showed me what it means to dedicate your life to healing. His example shaped the way I move through the world, with an intention to help people feel whole again.

It continues with me, through my 8 years of practice and the creation of Kaname Chiropractic. Kaname was never just about adjustments but also about building a space where care could ripple outward into families, neighborhoods and communities.

And now, it moves into the future through my brother Steven, who is studying to become a chiropractor himself. To watch him step into this calling feels like watching the rhythm of healing take root in yet another generation.

But this lineage doesn’t stop at my family; it extends into the family of doctors and staff that make Kaname what it is today. Dr. Cassie, Dr. Mariano, and Dr. Kaylee each bring their own wisdom, passion, and heart to this work. Together with our staff Esmira, Nicole and Cynthia, they form a community of care that grows stronger with every person we serve. Kaname is not one chiropractor but ultimately a collective, and that’s where its true power lies.

This is the heartbeat of Kaname: care that is not solitary but connected, not just professional but personal. It’s a lineage. A rhythm. A way of life.

Balance in Motion

Like the Equinox, these milestones remind me that balance isn’t something we “achieve” once and hold forever. It’s a living cycle. Some seasons are about grounding, others about expansion. Some are about planting seeds, others about harvesting the fruits.

This season, I find myself asking:

What am I ready to release?

What am I ready to root deeper into?

What rhythms are calling me back to myself?

Gratitude

I share these reflections not just to mark time, but to honor all of you who are part of this story. Every patient, every conversation, every moment of care has shaped what Kaname is becoming. You are part of this lineage too.

Thank you for trusting me and Kaname with your health, your stories, and your presence. Here’s to the next cycle of care, growth, and balance—together.

With gratitude,
Dr. Mari
