Celebrating Filipino American History Month: Healing, Heritage & Community
October is Filipino American History Month, a time to honor resilience, migration and the rich contributions of Filipino Americans. This year’s theme from the Filipino American National Historical Society, “From Quotas to Communities: Filipino American Migration and Movement” reminds us that healing and belonging often begin with movement.
At Kaname Chiropractic, this resonates deeply. Many of our doctors, staff, and patients share Filipino heritage and the values of bayanihan (community care), malasakit (deep compassion) and pakikipagkapwa (shared humanity). These guide how we practice with empathy, connection and care that honors the whole person.
Healing as Heritage
Dr. Cassie Stansberry leads our San Mateo office, where she hopes to reach more Filipino Americans and families on that side of the Bay. Rooted in her Bay Area–Filipino upbringing, Dr. Cassie sees each adjustment as an act of listening and service, a way to reconnect people to their bodies and their stories.
Dr. Justin Mariano bridges chiropractic and animal care, echoing hilot — the traditional Filipino healing art grounded in balance, intuition and respect for nature. His work reflects a deep understanding that healing is both physical and spiritual.
Dr. Kaylee Rivera embodies the next generation of Fil-Am healers, blending modern movement-based care with the cultural value of kapwa or shared humanity. Her approach invites patients to reconnect with their bodies and communities alike.
Our Community of Care
We’re grateful for our Filipino patients — caregivers, grandparents and professionals — whose stories remind us that self-care is also family care.
As one patient shared, “I used to think pain was just part of working hard. Now I know taking care of myself honors my family too.”
From the traditions of hilot to modern chiropractic care, our work continues a legacy of Filipino healing rooted in connection, resilience and community.
Celebrate With Us
This month, we invite you to join us in honoring Filipino American History Month by:
Supporting Filipino-owned wellness and food businesses in your community
Learning one migration story from the Manong/Manang generation, or the nurses, caregivers and immigrants who built our communities.
Sharing your story of healing, of how your culture has shaped your journey and how chiropractic care supports your next chapter
Consider how your wellness is connected not only to you, but to your ancestors, your community and to future generations
From our Kaname family to yours, Maraming salamat for being part of this circle of care.
